RP (Role-play) : Acting as a character in a fictional setting to create immersive narratives.
Character Sheet : Document detailing the attributes, skills, and background of a player's in-game character.
DM (Dungeon Master) or GM (Game Master) : Player responsible for creating and guiding the game's narrative. DM is used by Dungeons and Dragons, whereas GM is used by other systems.
PC (Player Character) : The character that player with create and use within the game. They will control how they act and what they say.
NPC (Non-Player Character) : Characters controlled by the DM or GM to interact with players.
IC (In Character) and OOC (Out of Character) : Distinction between a player's actions or dialogue as their character or as themselves.
Metagaming : Using out-of-game knowledge for in-game decisions, often viewed as breaking immersion.
ERP (Erotic RP) : Adult themed RP, must be 18+, in a private setting and with consenting individuals.
One shot : A story or mission that only takes place in one game session / sitting.
Campaign : An ongoing story or series of stories that people can enjoy for multiple sessions.
DC (Difficulty Challenge) or TN (Target Number) : This refers to the number that a player must roll on their dice. The higher the difficulty, the larger the number that a person must roll in order to succeed. With various systems, skills and attributes can help lower the difficulty.
